The Undergraduate Awards
The Undergraduate Awards are the only awards programme for Ireland’s top achieving undergraduates. I have worked with them since their inception, providing initially taking care of their print design and on this project rebuilding their website from the ground up.
Initially the Awards had a simple wordpress install that was sufficient while they were in “start-up mode”. However, once they gained widespread recognition and diversified into running events and producing an academic journal they felt that a more substantial web presence was needed.
I developed the current website with them over the space of two months – working for periods from their offices in Google’s EMEA in Dublin. I consulted closely at each step with Programme Manager Louise as she now maintains the site herself without the need to refer to when updates are needed.
The website runs off an Expression Engine 2 install that handles templating and content management, while each of the templates was hand coded in html by me. It pulls in content from three external sources – the Tumblr API, Eventbrite and Issuu.
